The cost of #RecoveringFromSexualViolence
Growing up, we are told that free things are worthless. That we need to “pay to play.” Products offered at discount prices aren’t as valuable and are somehow unworthy.
When I was recovering from my brain injury, I had to re-learn how to read, write, do basic math and walk without falling. I even had difficulty remembering the names of friends I’d known for years.
While still in recovery, I was the victim of domestic violence which made the situation much worse. I was only able to work part-time as a Registered Massage Therapist and faced daily flashbacks of the attack. I frequently found myself crying on the floor from the severe pain of the scar tissue.
During that time, I met master teacher of meditation, Luang Phor Viriyang Sirintharo.
He is 100 years old and divides his time between Edmonton and Thailand.
One of the first suggestions I’ll make to you when you come to #EdmontonTherapeuticMassage is to study Samatha Meditation under Luang Phor. You can study at the Willpower Institute. They offer a free Meditation Instructor Course. This course helped me to fully recover from the effects of a lifetime of sexualized violence.
The Willpower Institute is located in North Edmonton, close to Castledowns. The only cost is a nominal textbook fee. Luang Phor wrote this book over a period of many years while he attempted to convince the King of Thailand to allow him to teach in the West. It’s an exceptional book.
